چکیده

It is well known that the daily movement of people exhibits a high degree of repetition in which people usually stay at regular places for their daily activities [1]. It is also believed that people usually stay in a social community [2]. In this paper, we exploit the regular movement patterns of community members to design a new routing protocol called COMFA, which forwards messages of mobile nodes carried by community members. Particularly, COMFA utilizes the regular movement patterns of community members to construct the routing table and provides a decentralized solution to maximize the message delivery probability while preserving the message delivery deadline. We evaluate and compare the performance of COMFA protocol with Prophet routing protocol and Epidemic routing protocol over the real data set of 100 mobile nodes collected by 9 participants in the same research group at the University of Illinois campus. The experiment results show that COMFA outperforms other alternatives by improving the message delivery considerably while reducing the message overhead significantly.

Energy-Aware Probabilistic Epidemic Forwarding Method in Heterogeneous Delay Tolerant Networks

Due to the increasing use of wireless communications, infrastructure-less networks such as Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs) should be highly considered. DTN is most suitable where there is an intermittent connection between communicating nodes such as wireless mobile ad hoc network nodes. In general, a message sending node in DTN copies the message and transmits it to nodes which it encounters. A...

Design an Efficient Community-based Message Forwarding Method in Mobile Social Networks

Mobile social networks (MSNs) are a special type of Delay tolerant networks (DTNs) in which mobile devices communicate opportunistically to each other. One of the most challenging issues in Mobile Social Networks (MSNs) is to design an efficient message forwarding scheme that has a high performance in terms of delivery ratio, latency and communication cost. There are two different approaches fo...

Social-based routing scheme for fixed-line VANET

Vehicle Ad hoc NETwork (VANET) routing is facing a lot of challenges, such as efficient and effective message forwarding in the distributed network, as well as exploring and exploiting the movement regularity among vehicles and the social ties among passengers. Oriented to the fixed-line VANET, we propose a social-based routing scheme to enable the efficient and effective message routing among ...

HUBCODE: hub-based forwarding using network coding in delay tolerant networks

Most people-centric delay tolerant networks have been shown to exhibit power-law behavior. Analysis of the temporal connectivity graph of such networks reveals the existence of hubs, a fraction of the nodes, which are collectively connected to the rest of the nodes. In this paper, we propose a novel forwarding strategy called HubCode, which seeks to use the hubs as message relays. The hubs empl...

Contact Duration-Aware Epidemic Broadcasting in Delay/Disruption-Tolerant Networks

DTNs (Delay/Disruption-Tolerant Networks) composed of mobile nodes in low node-density environments have attracted considerable attention in recent years. In this paper, we propose a CD-BCAST (Contact Duration BroadCAST) mechanism that can reduce the number of message forwardings while maintaining short message delivery delays in DTNs composed of mobile nodes. The key idea behind CD-BCAST is to...
